Beyond the Dark Oceans

OUT SOON, SPRING 2026!

'Beyond the Dark Oceans' is the poignant and compelling true story of the Huntingford family’s journey from England to Canada in 1906, following their eldest son’s experiences of adaptation, love, and war. The novel is an exploration of family, identity, and resilience, set against the backdrop of historical upheavals—most notably the First World War.

The story focuses on Georgy, the eldest son of the Huntingford family, who, along with his siblings, emigrates to Canada in search of a fresh start. Their journey represents both the hopes and struggles of countless families who ventured to the New World in the early 20th century, seeking new opportunities in a land that promised much but often delivered hardship and sacrifice.

As Georgy grows up in a foreign land, he must learn to navigate the challenges of a new school, a different culture, the harsh climate of Canada, and the demands of hard labour. His coming-of-age is shaped not only by his personal growth but also by the wider tensions of the time, including the looming shadow of World War I.

When the war breaks out, Georgy answers the call to fight, traveling overseas where he meets his English cousin, Nellie. Through letters and fleeting reunions, their bond deepens into a powerful love story, set against the horrors and chaos of war. After enduring numerous separations, familial conflicts, and personal hardships, the two marry in England, where they rebuild their lives and face new challenges together.
